Job Description – Design Engineer (Fabrication, Platform & Railing, Tube Laser and Robot Welding)

Purpose of the Role
To prepare manufacturing drawings, optimize designs for production, generate tube laser cutting programs, develop robotic welding programs, and coordinate with production to ensure timely execution of platform, railing, scaffolding, and fabricated steel structures.
Key Responsibilities
Prepare 2D manufacturing drawings and 3D models for:
Industrial platforms
Staircases
Handrails and guardrails
Structural fabrication components
Formwork and scaffolding products
Review customer drawings and specifications.
Prepare General Arrangement (GA) drawings and fabrication drawings.
Ensure designs comply with applicable standards and project requirements.
Create nesting and cutting programs for tube laser machines.
Optimize material utilization and minimize scrap.
Generate NC files and machine-ready programs.
Coordinate with production for trial cutting and program validation.
Maintain tube profiles, material libraries, and cutting parameters.
Develop and optimize welding programs for robotic welding cells.
Define welding sequences, torch angles, and fixture requirements.
Conduct welding trials and improve cycle times.
Troubleshoot robot welding issues with production and maintenance teams.
Ensure weld quality meets drawing specifications.
Support production planning with BOM preparation.
Resolve shop-floor design and fabrication issues.
Coordinate with production, QC, stores, and purchase departments.
Issue revisions and maintain drawing control systems.
Prepare and maintain:
Bill of Materials (BOM)
Cutting lists
Material requirement sheets
Revision records
Update BOMs in ERP as per company procedures.
Maintain design database and standard part library.
Required Skills
Proficiency in:
AutoCAD
SolidWorks / Inventor / Tekla
Tube laser programming software
Robot welding programming software (Fanuc, Yaskawa, ABB or equivalent)
Good understanding of:
Fabrication drawings
Welding symbols
GD&T
Sheet metal and tube fabrication
Structural steel fabrication
Qualification
B.E./B.Tech or Diploma in Mechanical Engineering.
3–8 years experience in fabrication design and manufacturing.
Experience in tube laser programming and robotic welding programming preferred.
