Job description:
Required Skills
- Strong knowledge of CNC & VMC programming (G-code and M-code)
- Ability to read engineering drawings and GD&T
- Knowledge of cutting tools, inserts, and machining parameters
- Understanding of fixture design and workholding
- Problem-solving and analytical skills
- Knowledge of different materials (steel, aluminum, cast iron, stainless steel, etc.)
Roles and Responsibilities
- CNC Program Development
- Create CNC/VMC programs using G-code, M-code.
- Develop programs for custom components and one-off parts used in SPM manufacturing.
- Optimize machining cycles to reduce production time while maintaining quality.
- Drawing Interpretation
- Read and interpret engineering drawings, GD&T (Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing), and 3D CAD models.
- Select the appropriate machining strategy based on part geometry and tolerances.
- Tool Selection and Setup
- Select suitable cutting tools, tool holders, inserts, and workholding devices.
- Prepare tool offset sheets and setup instructions for machine operators.
- Ensure proper tool life management.
- Process Planning
- Decide the sequence of machining operations.
- Select cutting parameters such as spindle speed, feed rate, and depth of cut.
- Plan fixtures and clamping methods for complex parts.
- Program Optimization
- Improve cycle times and machining efficiency.
- Reduce tool wear and material waste.
- Standardize machining processes for repeat jobs.
- Quality Control
- Verify machined components against engineering drawings.
- Ensure dimensional accuracy using measuring instruments such as:
- Vernier caliper
- Micrometer
- Height gauge
- Bore gauge
- Dial indicator
- Troubleshooting
- Identify and resolve machining issues such as:
- Tool breakage
- Chatter
- Surface finish problems
- Dimensional deviations
- Modify programs to eliminate machining errors.
- Coordination with Other Departments
Work with:
- Design engineers
- Production engineers
- Quality engineers
- Documentation
- Maintain CNC program backups.
- Prepare setup sheets and tooling lists.
- Document machining parameters and revision history.
- Safety and Compliance
- Follow machine safety procedures.
- Ensure safe programming practices to prevent machine crashes.
- Maintain a clean and organized work area (5S practices).
